Commuters push train off man whose leg became trapped between carriage and platform

The man was boarding a rush hour train at Stirling station near Perth, Western Australia when he slipped and one leg became wedged in the gap.   Quick-thinking railway passengers and staff freed a man who had become trapped between a train and the platform by ROCKING the carriage.

The United States help Japan with the aftermath of the massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake and tsunami that struck on 3/11/11

President Obama received a briefing this morning in the Oval Office on the earthquake in Japan and the tsunami warnings across the Pacific from several senior U.S. government officials.
"We currently have an aircraft carrier in Japan and another is on its way," he said at the news conference. "We also have a ship en route to the Marianas Islands to assist as needed."
Tsunami warnings have been issued across the Pacific, and initial waves from the tsunami have reached Guam and other U.S. territories, Alaska and Hawaii, and other areas along the West Coast.

Actor Edward Norton visted Late Night Jimmy Fallon's show- shared Crowdrise fundraising

Another post for humanitarian effort. Beyond Rangoon is a movie which was inspired by real event

Beyond Rangoon is a 1995 drama film directed by John Boorman about Laura Bowman (played by Patricia Arquette), an American tourist who vacations in Burma (Myanmar) in 1988, the year in which the 8888 Uprising takes place. The film was mostly filmed in Malaysia, and, though a work of fiction, was inspired by real people and real events.

Bowman (played by Patricia Arquette) joins, albeit initially unintentionally, political rallies with university students protesting for democracy, and travels with the student leader U Aung Ko throughout Burma. There, they see the brutality of the military dictators of the State Law and Order Restoration Council (SLORC), and attempt to escape to Thailand.

Beyond Rangoon soundtrack was written by the German great composer Hans Zimmer.  In this ethnic tropes music, Hans Zimmer highlights on South-East Asia tradition where he employs pipes, wood flutes, and native rhythms with vivid effects to demonstrate the character of the students' strike in 1988, Burma and their fleeing Rangoon after Martial Law imposed. Waters of Irrawaddy is my favorite.

I watched 'The Killing Fields' movie from library.

The Killing Fields is a 1984 British drama film about the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia, which is based on the experiences of three journalists: Cambodian Dith Pran, American Sydney Schanberg and British Jon Swain. The film, which won three Academy Awards, was directed by Roland Joffé and stars Sam Waterston as Schanberg, Haing S. Ngor as Dith Pran, Julian Sands as Jon Swain, and John Malkovich as Al Rockoff. Residents return home after Calif pipeline blowout

Returning residents were wearing wristbands that show police they live in the area.

California regulators ordered the utility, Pacific Gas and Electric, to survey all its natural gas lines in the state in hopes of heading off another disaster.

Local and federal officials are probing the cause of the explosion that blew a segment of pipe 28 feet long onto the street some 100 feet away, creating a crater 167 feet long and 26 feet wide.

Investigators still don't know what caused Thursday night's blast. Investigators believed they had collected all the sections needed to reconstruct the metal pipeline but asked that anyone who found metal fragments in the blast area contact the NTSB. The agency also wants to know of any instances of dead vegetation prior to the explosion, which could indicate a gas leak.

At a church service at St. Robert's Catholic Church on Sunday morning, the Rev. Vincent Ring conducted a prayer for the people who died, as well as a prayer for the victims who have not been identified.

Thursday (9/9/10) night a huge fireball fueled by a broken natural gas line explode in the San Bruno foothills, which caused one casualty alongwith several injuries in the locality. More than 53 homes have been destroyed due to the fireball explosion. The injured people were taken to nearby hospitals according to the report from local authority.
The battalion chief’s office reported, the four-alarm fire, rising several hundred feet into the air in a high column of flames, started at about 6:15 p.m. at Skyline Boulevard and San Bruno Avenue. As of around 10:30 p.m. Cal Fire was confirmed that the fire was 50% controlled leaving nearly10 acres area burnt. In addition to the 53 homes damaged by the rage 120 homes in the area were affected.
The San Mateo County coroner said that no less than one person has died in the fire explosion. The reason behind the massive explosion is yet to be revealed.(KTVU news) direct quote.
