THE LAST CLAN from Empty Mind Films (Fujian Hakka Earth Buildings - Tu Lou,China)
The Last Clan is a story about the Chinese Hakka community - who cling desperately to their close-knit clan living, where families live together in large rammed-earth homes called Tulou. The families share a common name and ancestor, and some homes can number 300 family members of 3 or 4 generations. But how does the clan survive when all the young members start to leave and head for the city? Many have already left and return back to the Tulou only at festival time. Some have even left their wives or husbands behind.
To survive, the last remaining residents turn to tourism to attract money and so bring their sons and daughters back home. It is a story that is even more resonant in todays changing economy. Released in July 2009. Go to http://emptymindfilms.com for more information.
