Ms. Helen Brown was hired by Hearst to turn financially-troubled Cosmopolitan into
money-making powerhouse three years after writing her 1962 bestseller
"Sex and the Single Girl," which encouraged
women to be self-efficient
and independent, and advised them on how to better enjoy their jobs,
relationships and bodies.
